The Tao of The To Do List

The Tao, or fundamental consciousness encompasses all that needs to be done so it is done. When we’re aware of to do items we needn’t beat ourselves up about them our push ourselves to do them we simply accept and crucially trust ourselves that at the right time and space we will do them. For some of us this may require a to do list for organizational purposes.

A to do list is an excellent tool for embedding an intention within consciousness. I frequently find that when I enter events into a calendar or to do list I later find myself effortlessly and naturally carrying the list out without prompting or checking.

The practice of noting my intentions, which are very important, flows into the rhythm of my life. Other times when I am overwhelmed or inundated with items and no matter how much I put them on a list or attempt to remind myself I simply accept that struggle is not the answer and I surrender to the fact that a time will open up when it is appropriate to take action, but that time is simply not now. I remind myself in these moments “it is all done, it is all done. It is all taken care of.” And inevitably the work does get done.
